A light deprivation greenhouse uses blackout material with controlled exposure to light and darkness to simulate seasonal changes. Automating light and darkness tricks the plants into flowering on command, reducing the time to reach maturity which allows year-round cultivation with multiple harvests. A light deprivation greenhouse is designed for the perfect controlled growing environment. Plants like mums, zinnias, cosmos and other plants that are usually grown in the fall respond well in a light deprivation greenhouse. These systems are also ideal for medicinal growing and hemp production.
Benefits of light deprivation include:
- The ability to control environmental conditions to meet the growing needs of your specific crops and plants
- Capability of incorporating a clean room in your growing space to protect your seeds and plants from unsterilized conditions
- Using your greenhouse to create plant zones to prevent cross pollination and keeping your strains pure
- Incorporating total ebb and flo benches, hydroponic systems and grow lights to keep up with trends in the growing business
Manual Light Deprivation
One option for achieving light deprivation is using an economical tarp or covering over your greenhouse. Our Blackout Light Deprivation Tarp is strong and durable because it consists of two sheets of high strength virgin polyethylene film laminated together with a third layer of molten polyethylene. A heavy scrim reinforcement placed between these plies greatly enhances tear resistance and increases service life. The diamond reinforcement instantly responds to rips and tears by surrounding and stopping it. This tarp is 100% light blocking, with no pinholes or perforations. It is an 8 mil Black/White string reinforced polyethylene film manufactured with a mix of virgin polyethylene resins. The white outer layer contains UV inhibitors and thermal stabilizers to reduce heat build-up as well as condensation and the black outer layer contains carbon black to enhance outdoor life and ensure total light deprivation.
Automated Light Deprivation System
Another option for achieving light deprivation is to use a mechanical system. Our ADA Light Deprivation System is designed to roll on the outside of your structure, allowing more room for production inside your greenhouse. This system is fully automated and engineered specifically to fit the dimensions of your greenhouse.
