Oversized Shipment Delivery Policy

What is an Oversized Item?

Oversized items are large products that must ship through a freight carrier based on meeting one or more of the following criteria:

Weigh 151 lbs. or more when packaged

Length measures 108 in. or more

Girth measures 165 in. or more

Item ships on a wooden pallet, regardless of weight

How Does Shipping Work for Oversized Items?

Ahead of shipping, you will be provided the weights and dimensions of the crates so that you can be prepared to offload your items.

Drivers do not assist in removing oversized crates from the truck. Drivers generally will not enter a driveway, and will deliver at the residence curb. You will need to be on site for delivery. Offloading will generally require 2-4 people..

If offloading assistance or forklift offload is needed, many of our freight carriers offer this service at an additional cost, starting at $680 per shipment. This service may not be available in all areas.

All shipments require an appointment for delivery. Once you receive your tracking information, then you will need to contact the freight company and schedule your delivery appointment. It is the customer's responsibility to work with the freight line in scheduling the receiving of your shipment.

Delivery to islands and remote or isolated areas not commonly serviced by freight carriers will require freight to be quoted in excess of any “free shipping” available. Costs will be reviewed prior to any charges being processed for your order.

You must be present to accept, sign for, and inspect your delivery for damage.

How do I Schedule a Delivery?

You will be provided with information for your local freight terminal when your order has shipped. Call the local freight carrier to arrange your delivery date and time window. Whatever information you can give to the terminal when you set your delivery appointment will be given to the driver to make the delivery easier for them and for you.

Delivery times can vary depending on the freight carrier's schedule. Track your order online with the information provided to be aware of delays.

Carriers deliver Monday-Friday during normal business hours, and they will typically give you a 4-hour delivery window.

Inform the carrier if you have any circumstances that could affect the delivery, such as:

  • Very narrow driveway
  • Dead-end street
  • Ferry crossings/ Island delivery location
  • The driver will need to park in a particular place
  • Low-hanging tree limbs
  • Central receiving location
  • Gated Community
  • Delivery to a side door or garage entrance

Additional fees may apply

Storage Fees

Daily storage fees may also apply if you are not ready to receive your order when it is shipped, or if you do not accept delivery within 5 business days of the freight carrier’s first attempt to schedule delivery. If you miss a phone call from the freight carrier, then contact the freight carrier back as soon as possible. After 5 business days, the freight carrier may store your item and you may be charged storage fees.

Please make sure not to miss your delivery appointment; you may incur additional delivery fees such as re-delivery, storage charges and/or return shipping costs.

Are There Additional Delivery Services Available?

We offer the following additional services in many areas. Please contact a representative for more information on:

  • Time Critical delivery: If you need your shipment to arrive from factory to doorstep as quickly as possible, we offer Time Critical service
  • Forklift Offload: Your shipment will arrive via flatbed with forklift, and the driver will offload your shipment. This service is not available in all areas.
  • Lift Gate Service: With liftgate, shipments will be lowered from the truck bed to the ground, and the driver will assist in removing the product from the truck. You will need to be present for delivery.
    ***Lift gate is not available on items over 88” in length or over 3000 lbs.

All additional delivery services must be requested prior to shipment leaving our facility.

Damaged Shipments

When your order is received DO NOT WAIT to inspect the shipment. If you are installing at a later date, please check all items ahead of storage.

  • All damage and defects need to be noted on all copies of the delivery receipt and/or Bill of Lading.
  • Damages may not be evident before unpacking, so it is important that you inspect the entire shipment as soon as possible, as damage claims are limited to 5 days after delivery by most freight carriers. Please photograph the shipment while still crated if you suspect damage.
  • If a shipment has been received with damage, please follow up as quickly as possible. Please forward photos of damage and advise which pieces have been damaged within 3 calendar days of order receipt.

What is the Bill of Lading/Delivery Receipt?

  • At the time of delivery, the carrier will provide you with a delivery receipt and/or a Bill of Lading. This is your record of shipment, and agreement of the delivery and condition of your item.
  • Thoroughly inspect your shipment at the time of delivery and before you sign for the shipment. It is very important that you inspect the shipment to ensure the item is not damaged.

Shipment Notifications

To aid in the delivery process, Gothic Arch Greenhouses will send via email in advance of your shipment:

  • Your shipping and delivery agreement
  • The weight and dimensions of your shipment
  • The tracking information for your order
  • Freight carrier and terminal contact information

We utilize a variety of common carriers to ensure the best service to all delivery areas at the best possible rates. Please advise if you have a preferred carrier, and we will do our best to accommodate.
